In April I took a few photos of the faded youngsters from 2010 that I have now put into breeding pairs. This year we deliberately put together other couples to see how sea green, sea green pied, wild color and wild color fur are inherited.
A few photos of the birds I bought today in Gronau from a breeder who is regretting stopping his hobby.
The young have now flown out for over a week and are flying through the aviary like rockets, a beautiful sight. It's strange that the parents don't really care which youngsters they feed, even youngsters from an adjacent flight are fed through the bars.
This season started with 5 couples, a number of couples in the breeding cages, but unlike last year, less success than last year. Put them all together during the flight and see if the colony brood will work.
The first three couples have young that will fledge this week. The fourth couple is busy making a nest. Unfortunately, the colorful couple is not doing anything yet.
At the moment I have three pairs of perennial birds flying around and 2 pairs of home-bred 2007.
This is my growing material for the coming season.
In recent weeks I have sold the last youngsters so that I only have my breeding couples flying around.
Some of my young red headed youngsters from 2007.
From these youngsters I kept four unrelated ones to form breeding couples in the 2008 season.
It took some effort, but for a few weeks now I have owned a beautiful pair of colorful red-headed parrot finch.
I think it's a beautiful couple, but it's difficult to get a nice photo.
The couple sits with two couples and a loose doll in one of the three flights.
